Achieving Homeostasis in the Body
At all times, the body’s main goal is to promote homeostasis. This is the body’s attempt to run efficiently as possible under all circumstances. When an individual undergoes stress, whether physical or mental, this balance can be disrupted. Athletic Edge is designed for individuals who train and perform under high stress conditions. It helps the body maintain, promote and achieve homeostasis.*
The scientific foundation of Athletic Edge:
-
Mineral Content
-
pH
-
Blood Sugar
-
Blood Volume
-
Recovery
1. Mineral Content
The minerals selected for Athletic Edge have unique characteristics that benefit the body, especially in performance situations:
Minerals:
-
Calcium helps prevent cramps by avoiding lactic acid build-up*
-
Chromium helps regulate blood sugar levels*
-
Germanium has been shown to improve oxygen flow to the tissues of the body*
-
Magnesium is needed for the production of ATP, the body's energy molecule*
-
Platinum aids in increasing mental alertness*
-
Potassium helps to maintain acid / base balance*
-
Selenium is a strong anti-oxidant*
-
Sodium plays a key role in regulating heartbeat and blood pressure*
-
Sulfur is an essential component of three vitamins: biotin, pantothenic acid, and thiamin, which play an important role in energy metabolism.
-
Zinc assists the body in the manufacturing and function of over 300+ enzymes*
2. The pH of the Body is Critical to Performance
Body pH helps regulate the activity of different cellular receptors and the opening of ion channels. This is important for healthy bodily function and aids in the prevention of lactic acid build up. The importance of pH in the promotion of maintaining body homeostasis cannot be overlooked. Performance Edge has specific ingredients focused on promoting proper pH balance.*
3. Blood Sugar
Blood sugar, or blood glucose, is the raw energy fuel of the body. It too, plays a critical role in maintaining homeostasis.
Blood sugar levels are intimately tied to hormone balance in the body. There are two main hormones in the body that are influenced by blood glucose levels: insulin and glucagon.
Think of “glucagon” as “glucose is gone.” In the absence of glucose, the body releases its stored forms of energy and increases the production of new energy (glucagon production).
Insulin causes the body to store excess energy and shut off the production of new energy the opposite of glucagon. This ratio of insulin and glucagon is important in helping the body maintain a steady performance state.
At the beginning of physical exertion, the body uses up its blood glucose in about 20 minutes. It then starts to tap into energy reserves and continues the production of new energy. As exercise continues, a decrease in blood glucose levels lead to fatigue. This is the point when many athletes choose a sports supplement.
Traditional Sports Supplements
The majority of traditional sports supplement drinks found on the market are loaded with simple sugars. Just look at the labels: corn syrup, fructose, sucrose, to name just a few.
The challenge is these supplements are loaded with simple sugars, causing a sudden spike in the body’s blood glucose. This physically feels like a short burst of energy. However, these products are simply providing a “sugar high.” This is fine if your competition is over in 5 minutes or less, but if not, overall athletic performance is significantly impacted in a negative way.
This “sugar high” does three things:
-
It causes a spike in blood sugar levels, telling the body it has an excess of "raw energy".
-
This causes the body to decrease its production of glucagon and increase insulin production. Think of "glucagon" as "glucose is gone." In the absence of glucose, the body releases its stored forms of energy and increases the production of new energy.
-
This shift in the glucagon and insulin ratio results in the body's attempt to store energy when it needs it most. The body will no longer release energy from storage and will decrease energy production.
Traditional athletic drinks contain simple sugars, which are quickly depleted, leaving the body with an energy deficiency. This energy depleted state triggers an increase in glucagon production to get energy back, but this takes time. Time the athlete cannot afford.
4. Blood Volume
A hidden component for optimal performance
As individuals sweat, a decrease in blood volume occurs. Cardiac output, the quantity of blood pumped per unit of time, is dependent upon blood volume. A decrease in blood volume during intense athletic exertion causes the heart to work harder to maintain the same cardiac output. Fluid losses during exercise can also result in a decrease in the circulating blood volume and the overall water content of muscle cells. The outcome of these combined factors is fatigue.
-
Fluid loss of 2% impacts the body's ability to regulate heat
-
Fluid loss of 3% decreases muscle cell contraction time
-
Fluid loss of 4% causes overall performance to drop 5-10% (which can persist up tp 4 hours after rehydration)
Athletic Edge contains bio-available electrolytes to promote and maintain blood volime.*
5. Recovery
Recovery is the amount of time the body needs to repair and prepare for its next performance. Performance Edge helps maintain homeostasis during exertion.* This means less stress is put on the body. Therefore, the body needs less repair. By providing the athlete with completely bio-available minerals and electrolytes, the body is replenished and is ready to perform repairs.* This translates to faster recovery times.
All-Natural Supplement
The all-natural state of this performance supplement also makes it unique. Performance Edge attributes:
Solutomic® Technology
Eniva’s unique process utilizes pure, elemental minerals and ultra-pure water to create Solutomic minerals. Solutomic is defined as water-soluble, mono-atomic mineral ions. Solutomic minerals are readily absorbed and assimilated in the body, enabling a rapid return to competitive performance levels.*
Negative Field Activation®
The water used in this product has been structurally enhanced with Negative Field Activation®. It has been treated with a proprietary negative magnetic field design at multiple times the strength of the earth's own magnetic field
